Behind The Joy Preview Screening at Xperience Coffee Shop – A Night of Reflection & Conversation

Brooklyn’s own Xperience Coffee Shop has been a cultural staple for the past two years, hosting incredible events and serving the community in more ways than one. On this special night, the energy in the room was electric as Obasi Jackson (aka King Basi) and the phenomenal Shanita Francis led an open mic that set the perfect tone for an evening filled with art, music, and raw conversation.

We showcased a pivotal lunch scene from Behind The Joy, and the audience’s reaction was nothing short of amazing. The emotions in the room were palpable—especially among the fathers in attendance. Many of them saw themselves in the scene, resonating deeply with the struggle of feeling like the “third wheel” in the postpartum experience. They connected with the weight of missing the mark in understanding what their partner is going through and how that impacts their own role in the family.

One father asked me a question that stopped me in my tracks:

“How can I show up for my partner?”

That moment right there—that question—made all of this worth it. It solidified why I created this film in the first place: to start conversations, to open eyes, and to bridge the emotional gap between partners during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives.

This night at Xperience Coffee Shop was more than just a screening; it was a space for reflection, healing, and community. And I couldn’t be more grateful.
